If you attended our Lavish Lunch event back in October, you'll be familiar with Imedeen, the skincare supplement that helps to ensure beautiful skin from within. On the day, we had Emma Minderides, Imedeen's beauty expert, sharing tips about prepping your skin for the big day, and she was such a hit that we wanted all of our readers to benefit from her advice, regardless of whether or not they managed to bag a ticket!
We're always a little bit cautious when we discuss pre-wedding beauty. We never want to imply that brides or grooms need to drastically change how they look in order to get married - that's really not what we're about! - but at the same time, we think everyone deserves to feel gorgeous and confident on their big day, and a good, pre-wedding skincare regime can certainly help with that. If you can wake up on the morning of your bash and be happy with how your skin looks, the day will be off to a great start, so, of course, we want to help you make that happen!
How to Get Beautiful Skin on Your Wedding Day
In today's post, Emma is sharing six simple things you can do to ensure your skin is in tip top shape for the big day. Wedding planning can get stressful, which is bad news for your skin, so the sooner you form good skincare habits, the better! But this doesn't just go for brides or grooms - her advice applies to wedding party members, parents, and wedding guests, too!
1. Develop a Foolproof Skincare Regime (and Stick to It!)
Find a routine that's affordable, achievable and works for your skin. You can do this using the old fashioned trial-and-error method, but it's also worth seeking advice from a facialist or makeup artist you trust. And when you've found a really good regime, don't go fiddling with it, especially as you get closer to the big day! "Avoid making changes to your topical skincare routine just before the wedding," Emma advises. "If you’re testing new products, like moisturisers, serums or even makeup, ensure you give your skin a few months to adjust to new products."
2. Carve Out Some Time for Relaxation
Wedding planning can have its trying moments, so it's good to take a break from the spreadsheets and the to-do lists every once in a while. It's important to be deliberate about your downtime - otherwise, it may never happen! It helps to mark these times down in your diary, or even make a rolling appointment (e.g. every Sunday evening after dinner), and you can include your future spouse, too! "Be good to yourself and do anything that helps you relax!" Emma says. "Yoga, dancing, reading - whatever makes you switch off and unwind. For many women, stress can have bad effects on their skin, it can cause breakouts or sometimes dryness."
3. Drink More Water
This is not a particularly original tip, but believe us, it works! There are literally dozens of health benefits to drinking lots of water - hydrated skin is just one of them - so there's no excuse to put this one off any longer. "Water helps to hydrate skin from within," Emma says. "Drinking 1.6 litres of water a day is not only important for overall health, but also helps to improve the look and feel of your skin, so drink up before the big day!" If you think you might struggle with this one, try using a water bottle with motivational markings, or training yourself with an app like Water Alert or Plant Nanny.
4. Get Plenty of Sleep
Getting a good night's sleep is probably the quickest way to give your skin a boost, Emma says. "It can do wonders for the skin. Skin cells are constantly being renewed day and night, but the cell turnover is eight times faster at night than during the day." There are lots of little tricks you can employ to help improve the quantity and quality of your sleep, including developing a sleep schedule, getting a bit more exercise throughout the day, creating a relaxing bedtime ritual, or giving your bed a makeover with new pillows or bed linen.
5. Eat More Vegetables
It's no secret that your diet can have a significant impact on the appearance of your skin! "It’s important that you are eating the right foods ahead of your wedding day," Emma says, "not only to ensure you feel great, but also to help your skin look its best as you walk down the aisle. Eating protein-rich foods provide the nutrients your body needs to make collagen, which helps the skin preserve its firmness and elasticity. Fresh fruit and vegetables are a great source of Vitamin C, which contributes to normal collagen formation for the normal function of skin."
6. Invest in Some High-Quality Skincare Supplements
Supplements are a really handy way to get essential nutrients that are sometimes hard to factor into your diet, but what you may not know is that some supplements are specifically developed to improve the appearance of your skin. "Imedeen tablets work from within to help improve the appearance of the skin." Emma explains. "They contain exclusive Marine Complex, a protein and polysaccharide complex, containing elements similar to those naturally found in the skin. They start to work to help reduce visible signs of ageing by improving moisture balance and making skin feel smoother. Those taking Imedeen may notice visible improvements in as little as 12 weeks!"
