We love it when a couple put their guests first in a real wedding, it always makes for an altogether more fun, and relaxed celebration. Which is why we're all about Sarah and Neill's gorgeous wedding at Tullyverry in Co. Down. This stylish pair were keeping everything crossed for an outdoor wedding, and we're so glad they lucked out with non-stop sunshine for their vows, drinks reception, and stunning sunset shots by Adam & Grace Photography.
Sarah and Neill met when they were both at university in Coleraine, “Although we already had a lot of mutual friends in common, had never crossed paths until then. Just took Neill about a year to finally pluck up the courage to ask me on a date, which he did via Facebook Messenger. Super romantic!
These mix and match bridesmaids dresses are gorgeous don't you think? As for Sarah's fabulous gown, the lace detailing on the bodice is so beautiful.
This pair got engaged while on a bucket list trip to Iceland, “Neill had no specific plans of when he was going to do it but decided to see how each day went, however everything that could go wrong for him did,” says Sarah. “The trip started off with everyone getting taken off the plane on the runway in Belfast due to a malfunction, I wondered why Neill was so uptight about it.”
After a cancelled Northern Lights trip, a rainy waterfall trip with zero visibility, and a bout of travel sickness, Neill still hadn’t found the perfect moment to pop the question. “The last day we went to the Blue Lagoon, Neill had booked us our own private room with access to the lagoon once he saw it, he decided it was the place he would propose. He called me over to in front of the fire and got down on one knee. He then took the ring straight back off me so I wouldn’t lose it in the water.” That’s pretty fair Neill!
The couple describe the vibe of their wedding as ‘super laid back’, “We just wanted to have the most chilled out day with all our close friends and family. The weather was amazing so we were able to get married outside with everyone wearing their sunglasses,” says Sarah. “We were then able to have our drinks reception outside while listening to acoustic music from Craig, it felt like we were in a beer garden. It was definitely the day we had in mind when we booked our venue.”
The couple loved having all their friends and family in one place for the occasion, “My sister (who was bridesmaid), her husband and their baby son flew home from Australia to be there with us, it was so special as it was the first time I got to meet Oliver, my nephew who was born in March,” says Sarah.
Sarah wore her sister’s veil as a something borrowed, “She got married three years before me, it was so special to me that I was able to do that and it ended up going perfectly with my dress.”
The couple’s top priority was to create a day that would give all their guests a good time, “Sometimes going to weddings feels like a chore, we wanted a laid back day where everyone was able to relax and enjoy themselves. The venue allowed for guests to have freedom and enjoy the weather. It was also really important that we got to get married outside, the day before the wedding we didn’t think it was going to be possible but the weather picked up and there ended up being guests lined up for sun cream.”
The bride and groom supplied a bus for their guests to take them to and from the venue, “It was important to us that everyone was able to enjoy themselves and not have to worry about transport. The bus on the way home looked like great craic, we were gutted we didn’t get to join in the fun in the end.”
The couple added lots of atmosphere to their reception space with lanterns, mercury glass, and eucalyptus.
Sarah first went to see Tullyverry with her parents, “Neill was working and wasn’t able to make it. I loved it straight away. I loved that it wasn’t well known and just the whole vibe of it. Wedding venues around County Down are few and far between and I knew I definitely didn’t want a standard hotel wedding. The walled garden and the newly-built room which allowed for up to 130 guests for dinner sealed the deal. Colin Heron who owns Tullyveery was fantastic and he was part of the reason why we picked it.”
Sarah and Neill’s best piece of advice for other couples? Enjoy every minute! “It’s true what everyone says, that your wedding day it the fastest day of your life. Take a minute to stand back and take it all in. Don’t stress about getting around to talk to all your guests, they will come to you. Don’t stress about the weather (what is meant to be will be) I got super uptight the day before when it looked like we weren’t going to be able to get married outside and my freaking out got a special mention in Neill’s speech.”
The couple took in a spectacular multi-stop honeymoon, “We went to Rome for three nights and then got a cruise from there around Italy and Greece. We then headed to the Maldives for a week of relaxation after all the sight-seeing. We would definitely recommend it, it was a perfect combination of travel and relaxation. All the different elements meant it felt like we were away forever.”
Thanks so much to Sarah and Neill for sharing your wonderful celebration with us - and to Adam & Grace Photography for sending these beautiful pictures our way.
