A weekend-long wine country wedding outside Cape Town? We were always going to be excited about Donald and Mia's real wedding at Eureka Estate in Durbanville. But then came the gorgeous flowers, the jewel-toned styling and the beautiful images by Yeah Yeah Photography and we were not only smitten, but utterly inspired too!
What a view!
Donald and Mia met at a music festival called Park Acoustics in Pretoria, “Myself and a friend had nowhere to sit so we asked if we could share a piece of grass with Donald and his friend,” recalls Mia, “Donald got my number that night from a friend (I guess he was too shy to ask me himself) and we went on our first official date one week later. The rest is history.”
This luxe berry tone for the bridesmaids is so beautiful, and flattering on every skin tone. The mix and match necklines really modernise the line-up too.
Donald popped the question to Mia while they were away for their best friends’ wedding. “The next morning he arranged for me to have breakfast in bed at the place where we were staying. Under the cloche, with my plate of food, he hid the ring. When the waiter opened the cloche, I saw the ring and when I looked up Donald was on one knee in tears.”
A pre-ceremony gentlemanly gathering... no cigars for the ladies?
We asked this pair to describe their wedding, and their response makes it sound like one fun bash! “It was a festival to celebrate not only our love for each other but to celebrate life. We loved the idea of an elegant affair but with a festive vibe.”
We've always got a soft spot for an emotional groom!
The bride and groom were eager for their day to be special not just for them, but their guests too. “We wanted to be able to enjoy every second of the day with each other as well as our friends and family. Their involvement was very important to us.”
The ceremony was a highlight for the couple, “We have a few friends who are terrific singers and musicians so they did the music for us in the church.”
I don't know what's in these glasses, but it looks delicious!
The couple loved the idea of getting away for a few days with their guests and stretching out the celebrations, “We tried to make it a “weekend wedding” and arranged a wine tour for a large group of our friend two days before the wedding and had a reception dinner with our family at “Die Bergkelder” in Stellenbosch a few days before.”
Mia wore a stunning strapless Enzoani wedding dress with a sweetheart neckline. She paired it with a effortless upstyle and jewel-toned florals to match the bridesmaids.
It’s easy to see why Mia & Donald chose Eureka Estate for their big day, “The view, the reception area and the massive porch around the entire venue.”
This bouquet is the stuff of dreams, so many different blooms and a sweeping cascading feel, we could look at it all day!
The couple personalised their reception with unique table names, “Our table names were places that have been special to us over our lives so far,” explains Mia, “The area Donald grew up in, the town my family is from originally etc.”
The couple adorned their tables with an abundance of jewel-toned flowers, with blush orchids dotting each place setting and geometric centrepieces lending a contemporary feel.
Tall tapered candles and ghost chiavari chairs gives a classic-meets-cool feel to the reception space.
These newlyweds have some great advice to impart on fellow brides and grooms, “Enjoy the planning process! It is just as much part of your wedding as the actual day. Don’t sweat the small stuff! Not even you will remember if your table placements were perfect or not.”
The couple stayed in the Western Cape for their mini moon, “We went to Paternoster and a game farm in the Karoo straight after the wedding and then at a later stage we went to Bali.”
So many fab ideas for steal for your own big day! Thanks so much to Donald and Mia for sharing their wedding with us, and to Yeah Yeah Photography for capturing it so beautifully.
