Okay, so a glitter station might be up there with wedding ideas that are nice, but non-essential - like bathroom baskets or a doughnut wall! But today, I'm here to make the case for why every wedding needs to have a glitter station! They're fun, they're sparkly, they get guests mingling - and need I say more, but everyone looks better doused in glitter!
I can already see wedding venues wincing at the thought of their carpets. But stick with me!
I was recently at the wedding of my friends who first met at a festival, and who go to Glastonbury every year. Big glitter fans. So it was much to my delight when the DJ kicked off, and a spread of glitter, glue and glow sticks was laid out by the dancefloor.
At first it was just a couple of us who went to town Coachella-style, meticulously applying glitter to each other up our cheekbones and around our eyes. But once word spread around the dancefloor that there was there was some serious sparkle going on, everyone made a beeline for the glitter station.
There are photos of me applying glitter with abandon to the groom's dad, people bonded as they shared out the last of the glue, and the next morning everyone joked about how they'd had quite the fright when they looked in the mirror before breakfast.
My point being, it was an equaliser. A talking point. A fun element that got guests from different parts of the couple's life laughing and chatting together. And if you ask me, anything that gets your granny, your boss, your six-year-old niece and other half's college pal finding common ground, makes for a great wedding atmosphere.
Even if the hotel rues the day it let 80 people doused in glitter near their pillows !
What You Need For a Wedding Glitter Station
Creating your own wedding glitter bar is easy to do, but as with confetti, just make sure you clear it with your venue first, particularly if it's heavily carpeted!
1. Glitter
Of course the magic ingredient! As most glitter is plastic, it has the same nasty effects as those now-banned exfoliator beads, so look for bio-degradable glitter for a more earth-friendly sparkle.
Our favourite bio-degradable brands are Eco Stardust (available on ASOS) and Viva La Glitterlution on Etsy.
Get lots of colours, and order more than you think you need, it goes fast! Stars and face jewels optional for full festival vibes!
2. Gel Adhesive
You can buy dedicated glitter gel adhesive from most makeup brands, but Vaseline, lip balm or aloe vera gel all work perfectly, and shouldn't react on anyone's skin.
3. A Mirror
Make sure your station has one or two mirrors so your guests can see what they're doing!
And that's all you need - how easy!
