Succulents have been big news in the world of wedding flowers for over five years now. What were once an unusual addition to a bouquet or an offbeat centrepiece for cool weddings, succulents are now an essential evergreen in most florists' arsenal. Succulent wedding decor is one wedding trend that's sticking around for good.
So to give you inspiration for how to include succulents in your own wedding, we've rounded up some succulent wedding ideas along with a little more information on this pretty perennial.

So What Are Succulents?
Succulents are those little fat fleshy plants that you often see growing in rockeries or on the windowsill alongside cacti and aloe vera (fun fact: aloe is actually a kind of succulent!).
Succulents are perennials, which means they are evergreen (or purple!), offering lots of various colours and beautiful shapes, so while you might associate them with more sunny wedding days, they are excellent for winter weddings too. For weddings, they add a touch interest to bouquets, buttonholes, table decor and even cakes. As they are filled with water, they last well out of it, making them perfect for any day-before DIYs or decorative details.
Succulent Bridal Bouquet
Succulents in wedding bouquets can range from greyish green tones to purple, which means they work well in a multitude of palettes, from frosty white and grey, to pops of yellow, orange and even dusky pink.

Succulent Boutonnieres
A single succulent flower in a buttonhole adds a more minimal masculine edge than a blousy flower, but balanced by sprigs of lavender, or baby thistles, it's a striking look at any time of the year.

Succulent Centrepieces
I love bringing the outside in when it comes to the wedding tables, and with succulent plants you can have a full rockery style garden if you like. The look is more structural than overtly-pretty, but works well with lots of textures such as those we've picked here - grasses, moss, twigs, sand with glass, metal and wooden elements.

Succulent Wedding Favours
You could even do a little DIY and create little succulent wedding favours like these cuties - succulent plants can be found usually in the Alpine or desert plant section of the local garden centre, and if you're an avid collector, then vintage teacups are super pretty, or for a more rustic idea, gift your succulent wrapped with brown paper and twine.

Succulent Wedding Cakes
Probably my favourite use for these pretty plants, succulents on wedding cakes. A plain while or naked wedding cake can be set off with the strong pop of colour provided by these versatile little plants. A modern twist on classic floral cake decor for a real one of a kind look.
