Anna and Martin's real wedding is like no other we've ever shown. Choosing to make their wedding an experience for all their guests Anna and Martin invited their loved ones to the Northern tip of Sweden, just above the arctic circle. Miles and miles away from civilisation and surrounded by some of the most amazing scenery I've ever seen, this wedding by Nordica Photography will leave you in awe...
Anna tells us their love story..."We first met at university about 13 years ago…I knew Martin wanted to be more than friends from the start but just being around him was enough for me at the time and I never admitted, even to myself, that I actually may like him for real. We kept contact even after I moved to Stockholm and when he did a snowboard season in Chamonix (the French Alps) I decided to visit. Mother Nature is wise and could see we needed a push in the right direction. So - the Icelandic volcano Eyjafjällajökull had its eruption with a gigantic ash cloud all over Europe as a result. This meant no air travel and me staying for an additional 4 nights or so. Spending day and nights together for more than a week made me realise he was much more than just a friend! A couple of road bumps and some cold feet later finally led to us starting our shared journey through life!"
To propose Martin bought a ring in Stockholm and proposed on a family holiday with their son Alfred on the scenic island of Sicily. Martin describes the moment..."We ended up in a beautiful and romantic town called Taormina. We took a walk with 9 months old Alfred sleeping in his stroller and the sun was about to set behind the mountains making everything orange-yellow." Martin got down on one knee and Anna, of course, said yes.
How incredibly beautiful are these almost mirror like portraits? The setting for this out of this world wedding is Saltoluokta, Sweden, just above the above the arctic circle. Anna tells us why they chose it..."Our dream was to bring all our love ones to this place in the heart of the Swedish (northern) wilderness. Most of our guests had never been this far up and we wanted to give them an experience that was more than just us celebrating our love."
The day itself was warm and misty creating an almost magical vibe and allowing everyone to forget about the real world and focus on celebrating. Anna describes..."The morning was really grey and dull. But right after lunch, when we were about to take the boat to where the ceremony was held, the rain stopped. There was absolutely no wind and the water in the lake was completely calm, like a mirror. The fog came up from the lake and moved up towards the mountain during the ceremony which created a magic/mysterious vibe."
After their mountain lodge ceremony Anna and Martin hopped into a helicopter and flew to the top of a mountain where they spent some time walking, digesting the ceremony and taking some more amazing photographs. The helicopter then took them back to their guests at the mountain lodge where the reception and dinner awaited.
The lodge reception was kept simple with subtle candlelight, greenery wreaths and hanging flowers which perfectly complimented the natural aesthetic of the wooden lodge.
Anna and Martin describe..."The reception was held at the mountain station and we could never have imagined the love and positive energy in that room! Around 11pm the midnight sun came out of the clouds and we ran out of the building with our photographer close behind to take some photos!" What a suitably epic end to such a phenomenal wedding.
Ann and Martin are currently looking forward to their honeymoon this January in Bali where they will be staying at two different Jeeva Resorts in Lombok.
