Both originally from Wexford it was only fitting that Katie and Owen marry at the beautiful Horetown House, just a stone's throw from where Katie grew up. Embracing a very family friendly, chilled vibe Katie and Owen put the emphasis on having fun, with effortless details coming naturally. Katie remembers..."We smiled all day and so did our guests." Can't ask for much more than that. Katie Kav was on-hand to capture all the smiles and wedding details...
Katie and Owen met in the college bar at Waterford IT, as Owen remembers..."In college you meet a lot of new people, from all over the country, but in Waterford IT to be honest it’s mostly people from Wexford. About 8 weeks into college, I was introduced to one of those Wexford students. This person was wonderful and beautiful and I knew from the moment I met them, that they would change my life forever."
Katie and Owen hit it off that night in the bar after realising their mutual love for the Guns N' Roses and almost 12 years later they're still together, and still love the Guns N' Roses. Owen recalls..."That was the 27th of November 2004, nearly twelve years ago, and since that night, we haven't spent more than a few days apart. We really have grown up together, Katie was 17 when we started going out and I was 18."
To propose Owen got down on one knee, along with puppy Penelope, surrounded by natural beauty at Raven Point, Wexford. Katie remembers..."It was a massive surprise. I was delighted he didn’t buy a ring - he knew I would enjoy the process of shopping for one together."
Love that Owen chose to have his very own grooms-lady...!
Originally from Wexford, Katie and Owen chose to marry at the nearby Horetown House. Katie explains what made it perfect for them..."I think it’s incredibly elegant and Kate and Niamh are serious professionals. I would have chosen it even if it wasn’t just 15 minutes away from where I grew up and where the church is! I also love that it is a part of Wexford’s history. We’re both from Wexford. Another reason is that they prioritise a consistently excellent standard of food and wine. Their standards are high across the board."
Adding a hint of vintage to the day Katie chose to wear a beautiful full length beaded gown complete with a Juliet Cap and bold red lip by Stacey from Making Faces. A statement look that suits bride Katie perfectly.
To add some fun and personality to their reception Katie got busy inventing her very own wedding game. She explains..."Favours were ‘The Guest Game’, a deck of cards I made myself. “Draw one card each to read aloud and guess who at your table it’s about”. It’s completely unique as far as I know and was a massive hit with our guests! It really broke the ice, especially at the tables where there were people who didn’t know each other."
Katie offers some words of wedding planning wisdom..."Everyone advised us beforehand that the day flies by and it’s true, and it’s good to really think about that before and on the day so you can make sure to take as much of it in as possible. Some great advice we received was to make sure we planned some time to have to ourselves where we can just stop together for a few minutes to catch up and absorb all that was happening. We had the short car journey from the Church to Horetown, and also a little break to ourselves before dinner."
