Smitten from the moment they met Grace and Adele knew immediately that one day they'd marry. When that day came, three years later, it was exactly as they wanted. Filled with love, happiness and effortless style it's a pleasure to share Grace and Adele's love story and Chiswell Street Dining Rooms wedding captured by Julie Cummins with you today...
Grace and Adele first met in London, where they quickly fell in love. Grace tells their tale..."We met almost 3 years ago in London while Adele was stationed here working for NATO. We got on immediately and went on our first date pretty quickly. We went to Gordon’s on Embankment for a drink, that turned into a couple of bottles. I don’t think either of us expected that we wouldn’t really want to leave each other after that first date. I told two of my close friends the next day that I would definitely marry Adele, and I was only half joking! We were inseparable for the next couple of months. Adele sold her house only a few months after we first met and we moved in together in Ealing. We were making the most of our time together before she had to work abroad for 9 months. As a barrister in the Royal Navy, she was already working away for weeks at a time but she was gearing up to a 9 month deployment. We’ve been apart almost more than we’ve been together since we met but we are a great team so it’s no sweat!"
Eager to give Adele the perfect engagement ring Grace went searching for a designer to create something bespoke. Grace told us..."I started months before the proposal looking a rings and trying to find the perfect one. Eventually I found Niamh Spain and asked her to make to make Adele’s ring so I could be sure that she would have something unique. I made a book about our story with pictures, funny quotes and generally captured our memories so that she would have something to take away with her when she left."
Grace continues..."On the day of the proposal (it was going to be one of three days, whichever one I had the bottle to do it on) we went for lunch in our favourite restaurant, spent the afternoon strolling around London and stopped on the way home in our favourite pub. When we got home I knew I had to do it or I never would so I put some fizz in the freezer and sat Adele down to give her the book. She was reading through and when she got to the last few pages there were some photos of a file, a sapphire and other bits and pieces; I’d asked Niamh to take photos to document making the ring. So Adele is looking very confused and as she looks at me I open the ring box. Then she looks even more confused. When I looked down I realised that I’d actually opened a box of earrings that Niamh had made for me as a gift when I bought the ring! Eventually we cleared up the misunderstanding, I gave her the ring, she agreed to marry me and we celebrated with a glass or two of fizz. A couple of days later we flew to Rome to continue the celebrations.
Originally from Ireland, Grace thought they might marry in an Irish venue and so began to search but found nothing suitable. In the end both Grace and Adele decided a London wedding was the best choice.
Grace explains..."I’m from Kildare and Adele is from Nottinghamshire but we made our home together in London so it seemed like the right thing to do and a pretty good compromise for both families. When we walked into Chiswell Street Dining Rooms I think we knew straight away it was the one for us. The space was perfect for our numbers, the bar was really cool, the restaurant was modern but classic. We had some drinks while we waited for the Events Manager and thought that the staff were great so the overall first impression was fantastic. It almost looked just how we wanted it to look on the wedding day so it was really easy for us to imagine having our wedding there. It was a combination of right location, right size, right look and the confidence in the team there that they would deliver on the day. They didn’t let us down and many of our guests commented on how fantastic the team at Chiswell Street were."
Grace and Adele opted for two very different, yet complimentary wedding dresses. Grace recalls..."I had mine made by Emma from Fur Coat no Knickers. It was lace and silk organza with a moss green velvet waist band, a nod to my Irish heritage! I never thought I would care so much about a dress, but I fell in love with the design and had to have it. Adele got her dress in Monsoon. It was the first one she tried on and she loved it so bought it there and then."
Having spent the morning of the wedding together, Grace and Adele then had an intimate evening ceremony with readings by their sisters and lots of happy tears. The happy couple then enjoyed some fine dining before dancing the night away together.
