From the offset Elaine and Billy wanted a wedding, in their words,"that everyone had fun, ate great food, drank amazing wine, danced and sang the night away at." Blessed with two families that get along fabulously well their real wedding was exactly that with a roaring celebration in the wonderful and unique Barnabrow Country House in East Cork, all captured by the lovely Candy Stripe Photography...
Like many Irish couples Elaine and Billy met in their local nightclub - and soon found they had lots of connections. Elaine explains..."Our family have a lot of history with my aunt and Billy's aunt having trained to become nurses together in Cork. My mom then went on to share a flat in Cork with Billy's aunt and eventually Billy's uncle was a groomsman at my mom and dad's wedding." Wow, certainly a family affair...
With the seal of approval from Elaine's family, Billy proposed on a winter's day in Germany. Elaine remembers..."Billy proposed to me in the Botanical Gardens in Hamburg while we were there visiting one of Billy's best friends. It was a beautiful crisp day in January and I couldn't get my glove off fast enough to get the ring on. We had a wonderful weekend there celebrating before coming home to our friends and family."
Once back home in Ireland Elaine began pinning and planning the overall look of the wedding. She told us..."As soon as we were engaged I started a scrapbook and set up some boards on Pinterest and every time I saw something I thought I might like I made a note of it. Then when we came to setting a date and putting the plans in place all the groundwork had already been done."
Elaine and Billy's unique wedding venue of choice was the wonderful Barnabrow Country House, which they stayed in with family and friends in the lead up to the wedding, and whose staff and food they adored, Elaine explains, "The staff and everyone at Barnabrow went above and beyond and could not have done any more for us and our guests. The food was a major pull for us too as we are both big foodies. We had lots of fun and many trips to Barnabrow before finally deciding on the perfect menu for us. Barnabrow just has a wonderful feel about it and although we were only 30 minutes from home we felt like we were in another world."
On the day itself the wedding party went on to the wee hours with entertainment from The Beat Boutique and lots of impromptu sing-alongs. Elaine recalls..."The night went on until the early hours of the morning with cousins and friends playing guitars and the piano and a big sing song keeping everyone entertained. I think my parents were the last to make it to bed and it was most definitely bright at that stage."
