Summer Lovin' - How to create the Perfect Picnic Wedding

How to make a summer wedding picnic with perfection

Ever since we featured Tim and Scarlett's incredible picnic wedding I have been mildly obsessed. I just loved how they broke the wedding rules with such great style, proving that a picnic is the ideal solution if you want a truly relaxed, not to mention budget friendly summer wedding. With their beautiful wedding in mind, I pulled together a cheery and fun, retro picnic inspired wedding palette to show how to create the perfect picnic celebration. Combining classic garden party with a little nod to the 1950's, this look is perfect for a garden, marquee or tipi wedding. It would also work brilliantly as a day-after or night-before al fresco party if you're planning a longer or more formal wedding.

How to create this fun picnic wedding look...

  • The Style: A sweet tea-length a-line dress is the perfect option for lounging around on the grass on a summer's day. We've lots of suggestions on where to find the perfect 1950's style wedding dress. Pair with birdcage veil, gloves and of course red lips to complete the look. For bridesmaids choose dizzy floral prints.
  • The Stationery: Choose vintage inspired stationery with floral prints and retro fonts. A little bit of gingham ties the picnic idea in perfectly.
  • The Florals: For your bouquet choose summer garden blooms such as Roses, Dahlias, Lisianthus, Aster and even Strawberries like the bouquet above.
  • The Decor:  Wooden benches and tables should be decorated with gingham table runners, with simple centrepieces of flowers in  jam jars and flower pots with blossoming strawberry plants. Throw down some vintage patchwork quilts and cushions for guests to lounge on the grass for a real authentic picnic feel. Provide your guests with picnic baskets full of goodies such as gourmet sandwiches, pie and lemonade. Tie bunting between the trees and add some fairy lights for a twinkling night-time glow.
