Today's real wedding is one big pop of colour, winging its way all the way from the Netherlands. From the beautiful florals to the eclectic mix of bridesmaid's outfits, each element of Martijn and Ingelien's wedding day was styled around the beautiful season that is Spring, pretty appropriate in their homeland so famed for our fav Spring flower, the tulip. Using a base of yellow and blue the pair added in cutesy polka dots, tartan patterns and bunches and bunches of daisies, because what Spring wedding would be complete without them? The wonderful Judith of Velvetine Photography, one of Europe's top photographers, shared the fun of how it all came together and it's sure to put a spring (pun totally intended) in your step this afternoon... Martijn and Ingelien planned a wedding day with plenty of charm and personality. The pair incorporated the beautiful season of Spring into the day, using a fresh and colourful palette of yellow, pastel blue, lilac and pretty patterns. Their outfits were the starting point for their fabulous Springtime wedding. It was casual charm for groom Martijn, who donned a blue suit by Salvatore Vaccera. It was the accessorizing that we loved the most, a pale blue denim mix shirt, tartan bow tie and an oversized boutonnière incorporating the best of Spring flowers. His best accessory was of course his beautiful bride-to-be Ingelien... Ingelien's style was a mix of elegant and classic with laid back boho elements. She choose a beautiful gown from Rembo Styling with sheer panels and delicate embroidery. The colours of Spring were brought through in her floral crown and bouquet. The two met before the ceremony and made their way to the church together, after a few photographs of course! Waiting on their arrival were their very excited friends and family who were ready to wave pretty patterned bunting and flags. You can also see a sneak peek of some of the bridesmaid's yellow dresses and daisy bouquets, wait till you see the girls altogether! What an amazing way to start your ceremony and as you can see the pair's guest were equally as colourful and inventive with their style on the day! The pair married in the local city hall, Cityhall Oudewater. During the ceremony they had a little help from a very dapper little boy, I'm not quite sure what the meaning is behind the toy truck but hey it's cute all the same! The pair took advantage of their city location and enjoyed strolling around the beautiful cobbled streets with their guests before heading to their reception at Fort Wierickerschans. Ten bridesmaids is I think the most we've ever seen and these girls are super stylish too! Ingelien gave her friends a colour scheme of yellow and blue and let them choose their own outfits. The results were an eclectic mix of their own individual personalities and Martijn and Ingelien's Springtime colour palette. It's not matchy matchy and it works brilliantly! It was the little touches that the couple and their friends brought to the day that made it so unique. They were keen on adding some DIY projects and these little flags are so cute! Painted wooden sticks with polka dot tulle cut in a squares then glued onto the edge of the stick and tie on extra ribbons for fun! This little town is making me want to jump ship and head there on holidays, quaint, rustic and full of character... A stylish couple wouldn't be complete without a vintage mode of transport! The newly weds grabbed some time together and drove to the venue before the reception with Judith of Velvetine, who captured some really gorgeous portraits of the loved up duo.
Fort Wierickerschans is an amazing venue right in the middle of a star-shaped island between Bodegraven and Newer Bridge. The venue itself is actually a fort (the name may have given this away already!) and a remnant of the Old Dutch Waterline, with lots of original elements still intact along with modern interiors. It is a national monument in Netherlands and a pretty cool place to celebrate!
The couple continued the Springtime colour palette in their reception decor, using easy DIY projects. Coloured strips of material tied onto chairs as chair decor, mason jars filled with daisies (a relatively inexpensive flower) printed props and cards for people to use as a guest book.
The pair also used doilies as place mats and made bunting using doilies to string from the rafters. Peach table cloths added colour to the table with an overlay of polka dot patterned tulle (like the DIY flags). Succulents and Spring tulips were placed in tin cans to add variety in the table centre pieces. A cute and crafty reception that came together with a few simple elements.
Huge congrats to the lovely Martijn and Ingelien on their fresh Springtime themed wedding day. The yellow worked really well in today's real wedding and it's a colour that many people are using at the moment. Our Easter colour palette is a great place to start if you want to use yellow in your own wedding day.
